Corporate entertainment For several years we have organised an interesting programme of events for a large Finnish company, KPM Kymene, who manufacture and supply newsprint to the majority of the quality newspaper publishers in the UK. They select favoured clients to spend time with us in Snowdonia and the reaction from both hosts and clients has been unanimously positive and enthusiastic. Here’s how a typical week works: There are normally two KPM employees acting as hosts, who stay in the cottage for the entire week for continuity, whilst contingents of guests rotate. Four or five guests will arrive during the afternoon of day one and perhaps enjoy a short familiarisation walk in the surrounding area. They then enjoy a scrumptious tea with home-made preserves and cakes, perhaps followed by a swim in the heated pool. Then, in the evening, there will be a champagne reception followed by a really memorable six-or-seven course banquet by the log fire accompanied by excellent wines. (pictures and sample menus prepared by Anne on past occasions). They will then sit by the fire with coffee and chat, exchanging news, thoughts and plans. The following morning, after a full breakfast, they will set out for a day in the outdoors, accompanied by Alan – who is a member of the British Mountaineering Council. The day may be spent in the mountains, the route carefully tailored according to the aspiration and ability of the group and based on weather conditions. In fact, some groups request a relaxed and restful day enjoying a sumptuous picnic lunch in a peaceful spot along the lovely coastline or by river or waterfalls. Returning to the cottage in late afternoon they will enjoy high tea, a swim and then out for the evening to a carefully chosen restaurant (our local ‘Indian’ is a long-time favourite) or perhaps for a barbeque at a spectacular vantage point selected to take advantage of the sunset. ‘Home’ again for a relaxed evening by the fire followed by a well-earned sleep, and then the following morning they will return home or to work after a full breakfast. Later that afternoon, day three, a fresh intake of guests arrive, to be greeted by the hosts, and the programme is repeated, again tailored to the particular group. On day five the third group arrives, meaning that a total of up to eighteen guests can be accommodated during the week. (Please realise that the above programme is simply a record of how we organise the week for KPM Kymene; other hosts may prefer a different pattern which we will be happy to plan with them. There is provision for other activities, such as quad biking, go-carting, mountain biking, white-water rafting, sea or river fishing to give a few examples). Feedback has
been really encouraging, with clients exclaiming how worthwhile is the
entire experience, sharing luxury accommodation and integrating with the
group rather than being sequestered in an anonymous hotel room. Anne’s
catering is always singled out for extravagant praise and the activity
day is particularly welcomed as a change from the ubiquitous golf or day
at the races. |
